Installation
Which computers and formats are supported?
macOS 11 or later, Intel and Apple Silicon. The installer includes AU and VST3. Your DAW must support the chosen format and your macOS version. There is no Windows or AAX edition in this release.
How do I install and open HypnoScope?
Save your project and quit your DAW. Extract the ZIP, run the signed PKG installer, then reopen your DAW and scan its plug-ins. Insert HypnoScope on an audio track or bus; it is a plug-in, not a standalone application.
Where are the plug-ins installed?
For the current macOS user: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/HypnoScope.component and ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/HypnoScope.vst3. In Finder, Go to Folder accepts these paths. A different macOS user account may need its own installation.
Why does it not appear in my DAW?
Confirm that the supported AU or VST3 format is enabled in the DAW, then rescan and restart it. Check the installation paths and that you installed under the same macOS account. If scanning fails, send support the exact error, DAW version, macOS version and plug-in format.
Can I use it in Pro Tools?
This release has no AAX build, so it cannot be loaded directly as a native Pro Tools AAX plug-in. Use a compatible AU or VST3 host.
What if macOS says the installer is damaged or cannot be verified?
Download a fresh copy from your Lemon Squeezy order and confirm that the ZIP finishes downloading before extraction. The official commercial installer is signed and notarized. If the warning persists, stop and contact support with the exact message; do not disable macOS security protections.
Why is macOS asking for my password?
An installer permission prompt and a Keychain access prompt are different. During migration from an older test build, your DAW may request access to a HypnoScope licensing record: choose Always Allow only when the dialog identifies that record and your expected DAW. Enter the password only in the macOS dialog; HypnoScope never receives it. Repeated prompts are a support issue, not normal periodic activation.
Can I replace an old beta or remove the plug-in?
Close your DAW before updating and keep a backup of sessions that depend on an older version. Private test keys do not activate the commercial edition. To remove the plug-in, close the DAW and remove its AU/VST3 bundles from the installation paths; do not delete licensing data as a troubleshooting shortcut. Deactivate a paid license first if moving to another Mac.
Licenses & offline use
How do I start the seven-day demo?
Open LICENSE and choose Start 7-day demo with an internet connection. No card or purchase key is required. The seven calendar days begin at the first successful activation, not at download. Restarting or reinstalling does not restart the trial.
What happens when the demo expires?
Analysis stops and the license panel asks you to purchase or activate. Audio continues through the plug-in unchanged. Enter a purchased commercial key in the same commercial plug-in; you do not need a separate paid installer.
Where is my key and how do I activate it?
Open the order link in your Lemon Squeezy receipt to access the installer and key. In HypnoScope, open LICENSE, paste the full key and choose Activate while connected. Check spam if the receipt is missing. Contact support with your order reference if needed; never post the key publicly.
Is the purchase a subscription?
The current offer is a USD 39 one-time purchase with a permanent license entitlement for one active Mac. The seven-day offline authorization is a renewable validation period, not a recurring purchase or a seven-day paid license. Applicable taxes are shown at checkout.
Can I work without internet?
After validation, a purchased license has up to seven days of offline authorization. Reconnect and use Check online before it expires, or renew by file exchange. The demo still ends at its original seven-day deadline; it does not gain another seven days each time you connect.
How do I activate a Mac that cannot connect?
For a purchased license: in LICENSE choose Export request. Transfer the private .hypnorequest file to an online device, open the commercial activation page, provide your key and request, then transfer the returned .hypnolicense file to the original Mac and choose Import authorization. Authorization lasts seven days from issuance; repeat the exchange to renew.
Why is an offline file rejected?
Import the .hypnolicense response, not the .hypnorequest request. It must be issued for this Mac, this product and the commercial environment, and must not be expired or modified. Check the Mac’s date and time. A test authorization or an authorization for another Mac will not work.
How do I move my license to another Mac?
Connect the old Mac, open LICENSE and choose Deactivate. Then activate the key on the new Mac. If the old Mac was activated by file, enter the same key and Activate online first, then Deactivate. If the old Mac is unavailable, contact support; uninstalling alone does not release the activation.
Why does it say License required or activation limit reached?
Read the status inside LICENSE. For an expired paid offline authorization, connect and choose Check online; for an expired demo, enter a purchased key. For an activation-limit error, deactivate the old Mac or contact support. Do not repeatedly restart the demo or delete licensing files.
What if activation cannot reach the server or reports a clock problem?
Check internet access and the Mac’s correct automatic date/time, then retry once. If a firewall or proxy blocks access, ask its administrator or use the paid offline-file process from another device. Do not move the clock backward; send support the exact error if the problem continues.
Are my license files included in a preset or project?
License authorization is stored separately from plug-in presets. A preset or DAW project is not a license transfer. Keep your key and offline request/authorization files private.
Using HypnoScope
Does HypnoScope change my sound?
It is an analysis plug-in: the input audio passes through unchanged. VU calibration, loudness targets, alerts, zoom and display averaging affect readings or presentation, not audio gain, limiting or equalization.
Why are the meters blank or showing STOPPED?
Start playback and confirm audio reaches the track or bus containing HypnoScope. Check mute, bypass, routing and LICENSE. Give momentary/short-term measurements time to fill their windows; very quiet input may remain below the loudness gate.
How do I compare two tracks?
Put a HypnoScope instance in SENDER mode on each source and give each a clear name. Put another instance in METER mode and select them with Source 1 and Source 2. Use the same AU or VST3 format in the same host process/session, with playback running. Host isolation can prevent discovery.
Why does moving the track fader not change a Sender reading?
The Sender measures audio at its insert position, before a typical track fader. Adjust gain or processing before the Sender to change what it measures. Check your DAW’s routing rather than assuming a post-fader measurement.
What do NO INPUT, None / host bus and routing options mean?
None / host bus uses the host inputs instead of a named Sender. Two stereo buses compares the mono sums of two auxiliary stereo buses; the single stereo-bus mode treats left as Source 1 and right as Source 2. Your DAW must expose and route these inputs; NO INPUT means that source is not available.
Why do readings differ from another meter?
Match the measurement point, time window, reset position, channel routing, VU reference and peak type. RMS, LUFS, sample peak and true peak measure different things. Integrated loudness and LRA depend on the material measured since reset; use the same playback segment for a fair comparison.
Do a red alert, a negative correlation or 0 VU mean clipping?
Not necessarily. Alerts indicate a selected reference was exceeded; they do not limit audio. Negative correlation can indicate cancellation when combined to mono, so listen in mono and check routing. Zero VU is your calibrated reference, not automatically 0 dBFS.
How do I reset, compare settings and save work?
RESET clears measurement maxima and integrated history. A/B switches between two plug-in settings snapshots, not between Source 1 and Source 2. Presets saves/loads .hypno settings; export CSV to keep measurement history. Save your DAW project as well.
What if the window is too large, the display is slow or the DAW crashes?
Resize the plug-in from its edges; METER has a minimum size of 1000 × 720 and SENDER 500 × 220. Try a suitable display scaling, fewer visible analysis windows and a minimal project. If a crash repeats, save the DAW crash report and send support your versions, format and reproduction steps; do not remove licensing data.
Functions, terms & abbreviations
- DAW
- Digital Audio Workstation: the host application where you insert the plug-in.
- AU / VST3 / AAX
- Plug-in formats. HypnoScope includes Audio Units (AU) and VST3; this release does not include AAX.
- Hz / kHz
- Frequency in cycles per second; 1 kHz = 1,000 Hz.
- dB / dBFS
- Decibels express a ratio. dBFS references digital full scale; 0 dBFS is the full-scale reference.
- PEAK MAX
- Highest sample-peak level measured since reset, in dBFS.
- TRUE PEAK MAX / dBTP
- Estimated reconstructed peak, using 4× oversampling. It can exceed the highest individual sample. dBTP is its unit.
- RMS / RMS ms
- Root mean square: an average signal-energy measure. RMS ms sets its averaging window; it is not perceptually weighted loudness.
- LUFS / LU
- LUFS measures loudness relative to full scale using frequency weighting. LU expresses a loudness difference or range.
- M / SHORT-TERM / INTEGRATED
- Loudness windows: M = momentary, 400 ms; short-term = 3 seconds; integrated = accumulated gated loudness since reset.
- LRA
- Loudness Range, in LU: variation in programme loudness. It needs enough programme material to become meaningful.
- VU / VU REF.
- Volume Unit meter and its calibrated dBFS reference. Input, Mix and Master profiles set references of −18, −6 and 0 dBFS; they do not change gain.
- SPECTRUM / 61 BANDS
- Distribution of signal level across 61 frequency bands. Band levels are not the same as a broadband peak or RMS reading.
- AVERAGING / PEAK HOLD / RANGE
- Spectrum response smoothing, peak-marker retention time and displayed dB range. These are display settings.
- TARGET LUFS / ALERT dBTP
- Visual loudness target and true-peak warning threshold. Neither normalizes nor limits your audio.
- SCOPE / PERSISTENCE / ZOOM
- Stereo trace, how long its visual trail remains, and its visual magnification. Zoom does not change audio or correlation.
- L / R / M / S
- On the stereo scope: left, right, mid (common component) and side (difference component). M in the LUFS readout instead means momentary.
- CORRELATION / PHASE
- Similarity from −1 to +1. Strong negative values suggest opposing signals; listen for mono cancellation. A value near zero alone does not prove a fault.
- METER / SENDER
- METER displays analysis; SENDER makes a named source available to another compatible instance in the same host process.
- SOURCE 1 / SOURCE 2 / DELTA LEVEL
- The comparison inputs. Delta Level is Source 2 minus Source 1: positive means Source 2 is louder.
- LOW / MID / HIGH
- Comparison frequency ranges: 20–250 Hz, 250 Hz–1.5 kHz and 1.5–20 kHz. Source phase uses the full-band mono L/R sum.
- PRE-FADER / BUS
- Pre-fader means before the track fader. A bus routes or groups audio inside the DAW.
- SOURCE AVERAGING / HOLD
- Averaging smooths source level/phase readings. Source display hold retains visual peaks briefly and falls slowly; level and phase stay live.
- A/B / PRESETS / RESET
- Two settings snapshots; save/load plug-in settings; clear measurement history. A/B does not switch the audio sources.
- CSV / ms / s
- Comma-separated measurement export; milliseconds; seconds. CSV history uses one-second intervals, up to ten hours.
- LICENSE / Activate / Check online / Deactivate
- License panel; register a purchased key on this Mac; validate/renew online; release the paid activation for transfer.
- .hypno / .hypnorequest / .hypnolicense
- Settings preset / private offline request / signed offline authorization. These files have different purposes and are not interchangeable.

Instalación
¿Qué computadoras y formatos admite?
macOS 11 o posterior, Intel y Apple Silicon. Incluye AU y VST3.
Abre LICENSE y elige Start 7-day demo con conexión a internet.
¿Cómo transfiero mi licencia a otro Mac?
No necesariamente.
